About Orlando

Orlando is the ultimate family vacation destination, and requires serious advance planning for cheap flights and hotels. There are major theme parks abound: Walt Disney World, Universal Studios Orlando, and Sea World Orlando. That doesn't sound like much, but keep in mind that Walt Disney World itself is really four major theme parks in one—the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney-MGM Studios, and Disney's Animal Kingdom—and they each deserve a full day of exploration. These theme-park resorts, plus numerous smaller attractions and the second-biggest convention center in the country, attracts more than 45 million visitors every year, which makes Orlando one of the most popular family destinations in the world.

When to Travel to Orlando

Average Orlando temperatures range from a low of 48 degrees in winter to a high of 92 degrees in July and August. The months of June through September are hot and muggy, with sudden thunderstorms occurring nearly every afternoon. Needless to say, bring a raincoat or poncho if you are traveling to Orlando during these months. Other months are milder and drier. On a more serious note, the Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30, with maximum activity typically occurring in September. The time for your visit to Orlando can dramatically affect the cost and quality of your vacation. During the summer and other times when schools are on vacation, everything is more expensive because Orlando is such a strong family vacation destination - costs for airfare rises, there is more competition for hotel rooms and dinner reservations, and the crowds and lines at theme parks grow thick.

Cheap Flights to Orlando

Orlando is served primarily by Orlando International Airport (MCO). A modern and easy-to-navigate facility, MCO was ranked as the top large airport in the country in a 2004 J.D. Powers customer service study. Orlando International Airport serves as a mini-hub for Delta Connection carriers Chautauqua Airlines and Freedom Airlines, and it is a focus city for AirTran Airways, Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, and Southwest Airlines, so these are the airlines to check if you want to find cheap flights to Orlando.
